Saturdays 2pm - UWA Gymnasium.
Beginners and newcomers welcome at any time.
Kobudo is the study of the ancient Okinawan weapons, in particular the wooden implements.
The word Kobudo translates literally as "ancient martial arts", and many believe that weapons were always of primary study, with empty hand self defence secondary. For this reason weapons training is referred to as Kobudo.
Elements of empty hand defence are also practiced, as Tonfa techniques closely resemble Karate techniques. Thus Kobudo as trained at the UWA club is a complete martial art system.
The primary weapon of study in Kobudo is the Bo; or six foot staff. This weapon is the focus of training at the UWA club with an emphasis on kihon and kata.
Following the Bo other weapons are studied including the Tonfa, Sai and Nunchaku.
Kobudo concentrates on weapons training, and weaponry is studied as a true martial art in itself. This is the opposite of many other systems where weapons are only practiced as an extra, or added to empty hand training.
There is much to learn and challenge the students of Kobudo at the UWA club. The reward is achieving competence in a traditional Japanese style weapons art.
Find out why Kobudo is one of the fastest growing Martial Arts in the world.
Kobudo promotes strength, fitness and co-ordination while incorporating the values associated with a traditional Japanese martial art.
Weapons training also develops awareness, focus, and perception of distance, timing and trajectory.
Come and try a class. Our club has members of all ages and we encourage anyone who is looking for an interesting way to keep fit to try Kobudo.
It's fun and inspirational!
